Legendary Air Force football coach Fisher DeBerry is in the College Football Hall of Fame.

According to a source, who didn’t wish to be named because the official announcement won’t come until later this morning, DeBerry is one of two coaches in the 2011 hall of fame class. He will be inducted this Dec. 6. Former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr is the other coach in the class.

DeBerry is the all-time leader in wins for a coach at the Air Force Academy. He retired after the 2006 season, with a 169-109-1 record in 23 years as Falcons coach.

Well deserved!! Fisher may not have won a National Championship – but he had way more total wins, and ran a clean program that graduated his players.

  2. The football strategies Fisher devised are the reason Service Academy football programs (not just AF) are able to remain relevant even in this day and age. And the long line of military officers he helped produce is staggering in both volume and quality.

I’m really pleased that the selection commitee was able to see past wins/losses and national championships, and make the selection based on overall contribution to his school and profession!
