Since it has been a popular topic on the blog comments, here’s a story on Gazette.com explaining the financial details of Air Force men’s basketball’s trip to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. There’s also details about a bonus for coach Jeff Reynolds in that story.

Thanks for the facts Frank.
Interesting about the head coaches bonus structure. Pretty smart of him to play easy non-conference schedule…..May want to re-structure putting more weight on Mountain West wins.
The cost to play the 2 extra games is not that bad. And the kids got a trip to Santa Clara, pretty cool.
Yes thank you Frank. I hope that article makes the printed version of The Gazette.
I bet AFA is glad, in the end, they did not host a 2nd game. They just don’t sell that many tickets.
Coach is so smart to have that bonus in his contract. Helps when you schedule UCCS, CC (although AF lost), Tennessee State, Cal St Northridge, NC Central, Ark Pine Bluff, Fla A&M. Not sure those games should count as full “1 win”
Reynolds salary structure makes me queasy. I think the Base is probably a little too high. Other schools are not coming after Jeff Reynolds. Hate the bonus for wins. Way to easy to game the system, and gives him incentive for crappy out of conference games. 25% for the NIT is fine – but I wouldn’t mind seeing 40% for an NCAA touranament bid.
Any truth to the rumor that AFA has scheduled non-conference games against Mitchell and Doherty high schools next year? Also heard Cheyenne Mountain is potential opponent for a holiday tourney with Sierra and Wasson as well.
Good one from “The Bird”
AFA definitely got screwed from Reynolds Agent on the 15 win incentive.
15 wins versus lowly opponents doesn’t equal more paying fans – which is reason to give bonus.
AFA Basketball is 500 diehards. 200 staff. 100 to 200 cadets. And that’s about it unless they do free tickets, $2 tickets, or buy a $9 ticket and get equal credit for concessions – or play BYU. NO ON CARES about AFA Basketball…..Thank goodness for Calhoun and AF Football and CC Hockey in this town.
Air Force is LUCKY they didn’t win game # 17. Might have meant not only another loss of $20,000 +/-, but an even bigger loss to bonus Jeff Reynolds extra funds for game #17 win!
Also I bet Air Force lost even more money for that home game versus North Dakota. I’m sure those were Gross figures and not Net. What about cost of turning on the lights, parking attendants, ushers, concession workers, clean up crew, etc. etc. that they pay on a game-by-game basis – people not salaried.
Great work Frank!
Really who would have thought a 15 game winning season was possible especially after last year! Mueh must have thought he was brilliant (as he often does) for including that bonus structure in the contract.
It was great to see the Falcons in post-season play. Next year may hold better tournament possibilities, but at least they won their first game in the CIT. The team’s arrow is definitely pointed in the right direction, which is up. I look forward to even more improvement next season.
