Air Force to wear special uniforms for Saturday’s game

Published: September 27, 2010, 9:17 pm, by admin

In Monday’s practice, Air Force’s offensive players wore the same special jerseys they’ll wear for Saturday’s game against Navy. The jerseys are a navy blue, with red and white stripes on the shoulders and a bolt on the sleeve. The nameplates on the back of the jersey either read “Freedom” or “Service.”

The team will wear special helmets and pants, too.

“I like them,” receiver Kyle Halderman said. “It’s something different.”

  1. Frank, How about an article on the Falcon football JV team. They are 3-0 and won Sunday in Salina, KS by 61-6 against Kansas Wesleyan. We have a talented JV squad and I am sure the parents and friends of these fine young men would appreciate a little coverage. After all, they work, train, and practice just as hard as the varsity!

    Thanks and GO FALCONS!

    But why *NAVY* blue?????!!!??

Why the choice of “Freedom” or “Service”? Will it depend on the player as to which slogan he carries on the back of his jersey? What TV channel is going to carry the game?

Larry, I think it went by odds and evens, who got Freedom or Service. And yes, it’s on Versus.

    The game is on Versus

yes i have heard that it is odds one and evens the other. i’ve heard good things. some were skeptical of the helmets, but others really like them.

  6. could Air Force just once get rid of the lightning bolts? I mean come on, face it they look terrible on the helmets and on the jerseys. Its like a 1981 design that hasn’t held up. How about a falcon on the helmet or a jet?

why would you even say that? the bolts look great on the helmet. and as much as the academy preaches tradition it was of the few that are good. The helmet is highly recognizable around sports. Why don’t you ask Ohio State, Penn State, or Alabama to change theirs. I hope they don’t change them and personally i am a little worried about the amount of black we are incorporating. Our colors are blue and silver.

  8. Why not bus driver blue?

    Dear USAFA Fan,

Unfortunately, we will not be getting the Thunderbird Tribute jerseys from the Air Force VS Navy game as they are property of the football team and we are not authorized to sell them, at least at this point in time. It was a onetime tribute to the Thunderbirds and the copyrights are property of the team. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please feel free to contact us with any other questions or concerns. We appreciate your business. Have a great day!

    Sincerely,

Can we purchase a collectible size helmet of the Thunderbird Tribute uniforms? It seems that the jerseys and helmets would sell well.

Jennie, let me ask around and see if I can come up with an answer on that. I haven’t heard they are, but that’s an interesting question.

  12. How many times have we heard the cliche, “its the name on front of the uniform (the team) that matters?” Very classy for air force to honor the sentiment, with a statement we all need to include in our new years resolutions.

    Glad you won Air Force.
