Deep in this story from the Idaho Statesman is an interesting comment about the state of the Mountain West and the chances of the conference getting in the BCS mix.
Basically, WAC commissioner Karl Benson thinks that the chances of the MWC getting an automatic bid went out the door when Utah agreed to join the Pac-10, and adding Boise State doesn’t make a difference.
“Especially now losing Utah, they’re not even going to be close to meeting the criteria,” Benson said. “If Utah hadn’t gone to the Pac-10, I think the Mountain West would have been in very, very good position to seek the exception. Now I really don’t believe they have a chance.”
