Sunday Morning Links

Good morning. Should have a bowl announcement by mid-afternoon, I would expect. All indications are Air Force will go back to Fort Worth for the Armed Forces Bowl and face either Houston or Southern Miss. Check the blog or my Twitter account (twitter.com/jakeschaller) for updates.

I wrote for today about Air Force sophomore Connor Dietz, his gutsy performance against Utah (I believe this is the first time he’s spoken to the press about it) and his return to practice.

Also, the Air Force hockey team completed a sweep of American International. And the men’s basketball team fell at Missouri State, 58-48. The Falcons trailed by 11 early but rallied and led 30-27 early in the second half.

Last night’s Nebraska v. Texas game should provide everyone with a lesson on how to play spread offenses or other offenses that rely heavily on passing (e.g., Houston or BYU)–use 6 or 7 defensive backs, play them man to man and tight, and don’t give the offense anything underneath! Granted you need the personnel to do this, but you need the right people in any scheme and we have a pretty good crop of DBs at Air Force at the moment!

  2. Was very impressed with AF basketball last night. Mizzou St. is a good team that has potential to be top 25 team if things fall their way. The fact that they lost by 10 and were leading at half at MSU’s court makes it look even better.

The UNCO game was a one time thing. AF will surprise this season.
