Calhoun on Pro Policy

Published: May 23, 2009, 9:31 am, by admin

Air Force coach Troy Calhoun thinks service academies’ pro policies should be altered. I wrote about this in today’s edition of The Gazette. You can find it here.

One note – I wrote this a couple weeks ago, and we’ve been waiting for a day when we’d have space in the paper to run it. So the camp in which Travis Dekker participated wasn’t last week, it was a few weeks ago.

    Jake,
How did Dekker do at the packers camp?

The NFL direct path is overblown. I’m sure AFA has at least 1 grad every 2 years that could make an NFL roster…but how much would they play? How long would they last? What did Anthony Schlegal do in the NFL?

That said, I strongly agree with Calhoun that service commitments could be flexibly structured. Folks who demand 5 years of dedicated service have an unrealistic view of what service really entails….like handing out towels at the gym for 3-4 months waiting for a class opening. There is plenty of slack in the personnel system.

    Thanks for the comments.

James, I think Dekker performed fairly well at the rookie camp. I haven’t yet heard if he’ll be invited to training camp.

Here is an article from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal about the Packers’ tight end situation (http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/44271287.html). It talks about Dekker.
